Gene Information

human ... UGDH(7358)

General description

UDP-glucose 6-dehydrogenase (UGDH) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 4p14. UGDH is part of the UDP-glucose/GDP-mannose dehydrogenase family and is a widely expressed enzyme localized in the liver.

Biochem/physiol Actions

UDP-glucose 6-dehydrogenase (UGDH) transfers UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronate and thus takes part in the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, and heparan sulfate. UGDH is implicated in various cellular processes such as, detoxification, polysaccharide biosynthesis and embryonic development.

Physical form

0.5 mg/mL solution in 20 mM Tris-HCl buffer (pH 8.0) containing 20% glycerol, 1 mM DTT, 0.1 M NaCl, and 1 mM EDTA.

Preparation Note

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening.
