Biochem/physiol Actions

Lactoperoxidase catalyzes the oxidation of iodide to iodine by hydrogen peroxide. This activity provides a gentle, specific alternative to chloramine T for the radioiodination of proteins and DNA.

Unit Definition

One unit will form 1.0 mg of purpurogallin from pyrogallol in 20 sec at pH 6.0 at 20 °C.

Analysis Note

Protein determined by Lowry method.

Other Notes

Using 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt as substrate, two or three times the activity is observed.
