General description

Goat IgG (Gamma Globulin) is an immunoglobulin G antibody purified from goat serum. It plays a key role in the immune response, binding to specific antigens and initiating immune processes such as phagocytosis and complement activation. The antibody is purified from goat serum or plasma through fractionation, dialysis in a low ionic strength buffer, and lyophilization. γ-Globulins are glycoproteins that are antibodies produced by plasma cells. They are immunoglobulins and exist in five classes, namely: IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD, and IgE. Immunoglobulins are heterogeneous molecules that constitute 20% of the plasma proteins. They are made up of four polypeptide chains (two light and two heavy) linked together by disulfide bonds. The antigen-binding site is present at the nitrogen terminal.

Application

Goat IgG is widely used in research and diagnostics as a secondary antibody for investigating immune reactions, developing diagnostic assays, and supporting therapeutic approaches for infectious diseases.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Immunoglobulins are generated in response to antigens, and they serve as key regulators of the immune system. They protect against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Immunoglobulins are involved in the activation of the complement system, opsonization of microbes for phagocytosis, neutralization of toxins and viruses, and inhibition of the attachment of microbes to mucosal surfaces. Immunodeficiency can lead to recurrent infectious diseases.
