Benzo[a]pyrene belongs to the class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons[1], which can exist as a potent genotoxic compound[2] majorly formed via pyrolysis of organic matter[3] and can also be found in industrial and cigarette smoke, coal tar and food.[4]

Application

Benzo[a]pyrene may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in olive oil,[5] smoked and cooked food[6] and roasted coffee samples[7] by chromatography techniques.
