General description

Capillary columns have three distinctive layers namely, fused silica tube, protective coating and stationary phase. Fused silica tubing refers to tubing with a protective coating. Fused silica is the most commonly used material for capillary column tubing as it is a synthetic, quartz like glass containing less than 1ppm of metallic oxide impurities. Untreated fused silica is very active due to the presence of silanol groups.

Application

Untreated fused silica tubing is suitable for lining capillary column, used to support derivatized cyclodextrins as stationary phase immobilized on the column for enantiomeric separations via capillary electrophoresis, gas chromatography, or supercritical fluid chromatography.
