Gene Information

human ... TMEPA(56937)

General description

Anti-TMEPA Antibody detects endogenous levels of total TMEPA protein.
The transmembrane prostate androgen-induced RNA (TMEPAI), also known as prostate transmembrane protein androgen induced 1 (PMEPA1) gene, spans 55-60 kb on human chromosome 20q13.31-q13.33. The encoded protein is mainly expressed in prostate gland and is regulated by androgen receptor (AR). TMEPAI is a type Ib transmembrane protein characterized with two PY motifs involved in binding HECT(homologous to the E6AP carboxyl terminus)-type E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human TMEPA.

Immunogen Range: 101-150

Biochem/physiol Actions

Transmembrane prostate androgen-induced RNA (TMEPAI)/ prostate transmembrane protein androgen induced 1 (PMEPA1) plays a vital role in maintaining prostate homeostasis. It is also implicated in p53-mediated apoptosis and cell growth inhibition.
TMEPAI negatively regulate transforming growth factor- β (TGF-β) signaling in mammalian cells and Xenopus embryos. Upregulated expression of PMEPA1 stimulates cell migration and conserves the mesenchymal-like morphology of breast cancer cells. Deletion of the gene leads to prostate cancer.

TGF-β plays a central role in mediating epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by activating the Smad pathway. In addition, accumulating evidence suggests that TGF-β-induced EMT is NF-κB-dependent in various cancer types. However, it is largely unclear if NF-κB mediates TGF-β-induced EMT in

The prostate transmembrane protein androgen induced 1 (PMEPA1) gene is highly expressed in prostate epithelial cells and is a direct transcriptional target for the androgen receptor (AR). AR protein levels are controlled by the AR-PMEPA1 negative feedback loop through NEDD4-E3
