General description

The serum is the fluid from plasma devoid of fibrinogen, prothrombin, and other clotting factors. It contains various plasma proteins, amino acids, polypeptides, growth factors, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acid derivatives, hormones, inorganic minerals, and vitamins.

Application

Sera human has been used:
  • to prepare the antigen standards for the validation assay of multiple-biomarker detection
  • as a quality check (QC) sample to optimize the experimental workflow
  • as a control in immunoproteomics assay

Biochem/physiol Actions

Human serum is used as a cell culture supplement. It maintains physiological balance by stimulating or inhibiting cell growth. It is known to have an inhibitory action on endogenous and exogenous enzymes.

The production of capsular polysaccharides by Klebsiella pneumoniae protects the bacterial cell from harmful environmental factors such as antimicrobial compounds and infection by bacteriophages (phages). To bypass this protective barrier, some phages encode polysaccharide-degrading enzymes referred to as depolymerases to
