General description

Histamine dihydrochloride is a derivative of histamine.[1] It prevents the formation of ROS (reactive oxygen species), which inhibits the activation of T cells and natural killer cells.[2] Histamine dihydrochloride is implicated in tumor cell apoptosis.[1] It prevents the relapse of acute myeloid leukemia in patients.[3]

Application

Histamine dihydrochloride has been used:
  • as a orthograde cotransmitter in producing excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP)[4]
  • to determine its level in fish using HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography)[5]
  • to assess the tracheal response to antigens in guinea-pigs[6]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Endogenous H1 and H2 histamine receptor agonist; activates nitric oxide synthetase; potent vasodilator.

    1. We test the solubility of this product in water at a concentration of 50 mg/mL. This yields a clear, colorless to faint yellow solution.

    1. Solutions can be stored at 2-4°C for 8 weeks, and at -20°C for up to 12 months. Once thawed, solutions should be used within 6 hours or discarded. Solutions are light sensitive and need to be protected from light.

For many products, long-term storage at low temperatures will increase the time during which they are expected to remain in specification and therefore are labeled accordingly. The products sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than their recommended long-term storage are shipped on wet or dry ice. Ambient temperature shipping helps to control shipping costs for our customers.
