General description

4,5-Methylenedioxy-1,2-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride is a fluorescence tag for α keto acids. It is also required for the derivatization of sialic acids in presence of dilute sulfuric acid. The method allows determination of sialic acids.

Application

4,5-Methylenedioxy-1,2-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride has been used for the derivatization of sialic acids to analyse them by capillary liquid-chromatography-electrospray ionization/tandem mass spectrometry (CapLC-ESI-MS/MS).
Fluorogenic reagent for α-ketoacids.

The polysialyltransferases (polySTs) catalyse the polymerisation of polysialic acid, which plays an important role in tumour metastasis. While assays are available to assess polyST enzyme activity, there is no methodology available specifically optimised for identification and quantitative evaluation of potential
