General description

Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) is an organochlorine pesticide with carcinogenic and mutagenic effects and also is a potential environmental contaminant.

Application

Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) may be used as a reference standard for the analysis of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) pesticide residues in fish by gas chromatography coupled with electron capture detector (GC-ECD) and confirmation by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Intensive historical and worldwide use of pesticide formulations containing hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) has led to widespread contamination. We derived four anaerobic enrichment cultures from HCH-contaminated soil capable of sustainably dechlorinating each of α-, β-, γ-, and δ-HCH isomers stoichiometrically to benzene

This study was initiated to document information on the levels of sediment contamination with organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Moreover, it was intended to identify compounds which impose major ecological risks to aquatic organisms.
