Application

α-Naphthylamine and sulfanilic acid are used for detection of nitrate reduction by bacteria. Organisms containing nitrate reductase reduce nitrate to nitrite, which forms a diazonium salt with sulfanilic acid and reacts with α-naphthylamine to form a red azo dye.

A bifunctional adenosine-sensitive double-stranded DNA aptamer was used to create and control a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) hot spot between a bulk Au surface and a gold nanoparticle (Au NP) attached to the aptamer via a biotin-avidin linkage. The Au

An elusive chemical contribution to SERS is investigated by estimating the chemical coupling strengths through a dynamic relative peak analysis during solvent evaporation from a diluted chemical sample that is drop-deposited on a soft SERS substrate.

A chemically modified electrode is constructed based on the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)/4-aminobenzeresulfonic acid (4-ABSA) film-coated glassy carbon electrode. We present a microfluidic technique for sensitive, real-time, optimized detection of airborne water-soluble molecules by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The method is based on a free-surface fluidic device in which a pressure-driven liquid microchannel flow is constrained by surface tension.
