Biochem/physiol Actions

Endogenous agonist of neuromedin-U receptor 1 (NMUR1) and neuromedin-U receptor 2 (NMUR2)

Neuromedin U-23 (Neuromedin U), a neuropeptide, is endogenous agonist of neuromedin-U receptor 1 (EC50 = 0.17 nM) and neuromedin-U receptor 2 (EC50 = 1.4 nM) that regulates blood pressure, ion transport in the gut, mesenteric blood flow and adrenocortical function. Neuromedin U-23 decreases body weight and food intake and increases core body temperature in mice when administered at a dose of 36 µg/animal. It appears that neuromedin U regulates epithelial cell differentiation and barrier immunity through interaction with neuromedin-U receptor 1 present at small intestine eosinophils.

Neuromedin U (NMU) and neuromedin S (NMS) are structurally related neuropeptides that have been reported to modulate energy homeostasis. Pharmacological data have shown that NMU and NMS inhibit food intake when administered centrally and that NMU increases energy expenditure. Additionally

Neuromedin U (NMU) is a bioactive peptide produced in the gut and in the brain, with a role in multiple physiological processes. NMU acts by binding and activating two G protein coupled receptors (GPCR), the NMU receptor 1 (NMU-R1), which

Eosinophils are granulocytes that play an essential role in type 2 immunity and regulate multiple homeostatic processes in the small intestine (SI). However, the signals that regulate eosinophil activity in the SI at steady state remain poorly understood. Through transcriptome
