Schisandrin A is a bioactive lignan found in the fruits of several species of the Schisandra genus that has liver-protective, anti-tumor and antioxidant activities. It increases the activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase and shows anti-ischemic effects in vivo.
