General description

Apoliporotein D (ApoD), a 29-kDa apolipoprotein bound to high density lipoproteins (HDL) in human plasma, is a member of the lipocalin superfamily of proteins. ApoD is widely expressed at high levels in a variety of tissues such as spleen, testes and brain (central nervous system). In the CNS, ApoD is mainly expressed by astrocytes and oligodendrocytes from late embryogenesis to aged nervous system.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human apolipoprotein-D, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence has 71% sequence identity in rat and mouse ApoD.

Application

Anti-ApoD (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in several immunochemical techniques including immunoblotting, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Apoliporotein D (ApoD) acts as transporters of small hydrophobic ligands.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
