Gene Information

human ... RNASEN(29102)

General description

Drosha ribonuclease III (Drosha) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 5p13.3. It is a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-specific RNase III enzyme. The encoded protein contains RNase III domains (RIIIDs) on the top and central domain (CED) at the bottom. In addition, it also contains unique non-canonical zinc-finger motifs.

Application

Anti-Drosha antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting and immunofluorescence.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Drosha ribonuclease III (Drosha) plays a vital role in initiation of microRNA (miRNA) maturation. It catalyzes the cleavage of stem loop structure from the primary microRNA (pri-miRNA).Drosha ribonuclease III (Drosha) plays a vital role in initiation of microRNA (miRNA) maturation. It catalyzes the cleavage of stem loop structure from the primary microRNA (pri-miRNA). Mutation in the gene is associated with development of Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Knockdown of Drosha can enhance the sensitivity of gastric cancer to epirubicin.
