General description

Sodium pyrophosphate tetrabasic decahydrate functions as a sequestering, clarifying, buffering agent and water softener.[1] It is used as an emulsifier, pH buffer and dough conditioner. Sodium pyrophosphate tetrabasic acts as a thickening agent in puddings and tartar control agent in toothpaste.[2]

Application

Sodium pyrophosphate tetrabasic decahydrate has been used:
  • for pyrophosphate hydrolysis and quantification[3]
  • as a component of extraction buffer to homogenize liver[4]
  • as a component of cell lysis buffer for western blotting[5]
