Application
Methyl red is widely used in food science and applied & pure biology. It is added in media while preparing agar plates for microbiology. It is used as a vital stain for protozoa. Methyl red is also utilized as a tracer for assessing penetration of foods into packaging and as a component of an indicator to examine pork quality. It has been used to study the ability of earthworms to modify their environmental pH.
