General description

Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate is the hydrated magnesium salt of acetic acid. Its crystals are needle-shaped and monoclinic. In its molecule, magnesium atom is located at the center of symmetry and is surrounded by 4 water molecules, while the two acetate groups are located in plane. On thermal dehydration, it forms anhydrous glass, which exhibits the glass transition phenomenon around 470K.

Application

Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate has been used in the fabrication of biotin-labeled DNA nanotubes.
