Gene Information

human ... RBPJ(3516)

General description

RBP-jk, Recombinant signal binding protein for immunoglobin kappa J region, is a human homolog for the Drosophila gene, suppressor of hairless. RBP-jk is located in the nucleus and is a 60 kDa monomeric protein that is used as a promoter region in notch signaling. Notch signaling is important in cell to cell communication which allows "a differentiating cell to suppress the same differentiation fate in a neighboring cell (the receiving cell). This ensures that the correct number of cells are distributed to distinct cell fates." When RBP-jk is not associated with Notch proteins, it acts as a transcriptional repressor. A disease associated with RBP-jk is the Epstein Barr virus.

Immunogen

Recombinant protein corresponding to human RBP-Jk.
