Gene Information

human ... HPCAL1(3241)

General description

Hippocalcin-like protein 1 (UniProt: P37235; also known as Calcium-binding protein BDR-1, HLP2, Visinin-like protein 3, VILIP-3) is encoded by the HPCAL1 (also known a BDR1) gene (Gene ID: 3241) in human. HPCAL1 is a lipid-anchor membrane protein of the visinin-like subfamily of neural calcium sensor and is involved in the calcium-dependent regulation of rhodopsin phosphorylation. It is structurally related to Ca2+-myristoyl switch proteins that contain four EF-hand motifs and a covalently attached N-terminal myristoyl group. HPCAL1 is also expressed in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum and hippocampus where it is believed to regulate synaptic plasticity relevant for learning and memory. Clone 5A5 can detect HPCAL1 in formalin-fixed 293 cells and in pancreatic cell lines. (Ref.: Chen, Y., et al. (2014). Monoclonal Antibodies in Immunodiagnosis and Immunotherapy 33(1); 20-27; Li, C., et al. (2016). PLoS One 11(11); e0165921).

Specificity

Clone 5A5 specifically detects Hippocalcin-like protein 1 (HPCAL1) in human cells.

Immunogen

Native and denatured human HPCAL1.
