General description

Potassium hexachlororuthenate(IV) is a dark red to brown crystalline powder. The compound is soluble in water, alcohol and acetone. In general, ruthenium(III) chloride is combined with potassium chloride in the presence of chlorine gas to produce, Potassium hexachlororuthenate(IV).

Application

It is extensively employed as a catalyst in chemical synthesis reactions such as alcohol and aldehyde oxidation. It′s also utilised as a starting point for the synthesis of additional ruthenium compounds including ruthenium(III) oxide.
