General description

Anti-Myocardin specifically recognizes human, rat and chicken myocardin (MYOCD). Myocardin is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 17p11.2. It contains a conserved SAP (SAF-A/B, Acinus, and PIAS) domain, involved in the regulation of nuclear organization, chromosomal dynamics and apoptosis. The encoded protein is expressed in a precise developmentally regulated, lineage-restricted pattern in the embryo and during postnatal development.

Immunogen

a synthetic peptide corresponding to an internal sequence of human myocardin, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in human myocardin isoform 2 and in rat and mouse myocardin.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Myocardin (MYOCD) acts as an important smooth and cardiac muscle-specific transcriptional coactivator of serum response factor (SRF). It also plays an essential role in smooth muscle cell (SMC) differentiation. The encoded protein regulates bone morphogenetic protein 10 (BMP10) expression and is required for cardiac development, as well as cardiomyocyte survival and maintenance of heart function. MYOCD expression is associated with the development of atherosclerosis, Alzheimer′s disease and malignant transformation.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
