General description

Inositol phospholipid species are membrane-bound signaling molecules that have been implicated in almost all aspects of cellular physiology, including cellular growth, metabolism, proliferation, and survival.

Application

18:0-20:4 PI(3,5)P2 or 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-myo-inositol-3′,5′-bisphosphate) (ammonium salt) has been used:
  • in liposome preparation
  • in liposomes to check the lipid binding specificity of cortical sorting signal of integral membrane protein, Ist2 (CSSIst2) towards different phosphatidlyinositolphosphates (PIPs)
  • in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) to study the interaction of cholesterol with phosphoinositides

Recruitment of cytosolic proteins to individual membranes is governed by a combination of protein-protein and protein-membrane interactions. Many proteins recognize phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P(2)] at the cytosolic surface of the plasma membrane (PM). Here, we show that a protein-lipid interaction can

Local accumulation of phosphoinositides (PIPs) is an important factor for a broad range of cellular events including membrane trafficking and cell signaling. The negatively charged phosphoinositide headgroups can interact with cations or cationic proteins and this electrostatic interaction has been

Glucose/carbon metabolism is a fundamental cellular process in living cells. In response to varying environments, eukaryotic cells reprogram their glucose/carbon metabolism between aerobic or anaerobic glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and/or gluconeogenesis. The distinct type of glucose/carbon metabolism that a cell carries

Long-distance RNA transport enables local protein synthesis at metabolically-active sites distant from the nucleus. This process ensures an appropriate spatial organization of proteins, vital to polarized cells such as neurons. Here, we present a mechanism for RNA transport in which

The quantitatively minor phospholipid phosphatidylinositol (4,5)-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P(2)] fulfills many cellular functions in the plasma membrane (PM), whereas its synthetic precursor, phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P), has no assigned PM roles apart from PI(4,5)P(2) synthesis. We used a combination of pharmacological and chemical
