Application

Magnesium turnings (Mg) can be used to prepare reactive organomagnesium compounds (Grignard reagents, GR) by reacting with alkyl, allyl, vinyl, or aryl halides. These GR reagents are widely used in organic synthesis to produce useful chemical intermediates. Mg can also be used to prepare tetraisopropyl- and tetrabutyl-distibane by dehalogenation of diisopropyl- and dibutyl-antinomy bromide, respectively.

Other Notes

Based on preparing 0.5 M solution of organomagnesium reagent and 40% headspace.
