General description

1-Bromobutane, an organobromine compound, is a commonly used industrial solvent for cleaning, extraction and chemical synthesis.

Application

1-Bromobutane may be used as a derivatization reagent for multiple functional groups (amino, carboxyl, and phenolic hydroxyl groups) of amino acids to improve hydrophobicities and basicities of the amino acids. It may also be used as an internal standard for the quantification of 1- and 2-bromopropane in human urine by headspace gas chromatography.

Existing methods for imparting antibacterial performance to solid surfaces tend to either be substrate-specific or rely upon leaching modes of action that cause ecological damage. An alternative approach is outlined comprising plasmachemical functionalization of solid surfaces with poly(4-vinyl pyridine) moieties

Halogenated organic compounds, such as 1-bromobutane (1-BB), have been used as cleaning agents, agents for chemical syntheses, or extraction solvents. In the present study, hepatotoxic effects of 1-BB and its conjugation with glutathione (GSH) were investigated in female BALB/c mice.
