General description

4,4′-DDT (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) is a notorious organochlorine pesticide. It contains 77% p′p′-DDT, 15% o′p′-DDT, 4% p′p′-DDE (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethylene) and less than 1% o′p′-DDD (Dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane), p′p′-DDD and o′p′-DDE.

Application

4,4′-DDT may be used as a reference standard for the determination of the chlorinated pesticide:
  • In water by solid-phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography (GC) coupled with an electron capture detector.
  • In human biological samples by gas chromatography (GC) with mass spectrometry (MS) detector in tandem mode.
It may also be used as a standard to spike milk samples during extraction method, further followed by column chromatography to determine organochlorine pollutants.
