General description

Uteroglobin, also known as clara cell phospholipid-binding protein or CC10, is a member of the secretoglobin superfamily. It is secreted from nonciliated cells in the epithelial lining of bronchioles, also referred as Clara cells. Uteroglobin is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 11q12.2 – 13.1. Recombinant Human Uteroglobin is an 8.0kDa homodimeric protein consisting of 142 amino acid residues.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Uteroglobin functions as an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory protein. Uteroglobin might play a vital role in regulation of airway inflammation. Elevated level of uteroglobin has been observed in fallopian tubes of tubal ectopic pregnant women and in female patients with pelvic inflammatory disease. Uteroglobin level is reduced in serum of asthmatic patients with a long duration of the disease. Uteroglobin stimulates the growth of preimplantation blastocysts and it functions as a carrier and/or scavenger of progesterone, decreasing its toxicity to the early developing embryo. Uteroglobin has the capacity to prevent both chemotaxis and phagocytosis of monocytes and neutrophils.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 1 x PBS

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
