Cell Line Origin

Human breast epithelium, SV40 transformed

Cell Line Description

SVCT has been established from human breast epithelial cells being transfected with SV40. The cell line shows an abnormal karyotype and was not tumourigenic in athymic male nude mice. SVCT have been found positive for the expression of keratin 7, 8 and 18 but negative for keratin 19. Epithelial cells, dome formation when confluent.

Culture Medium

DMEM + 2 mM Glutamine + 5μg/ml Hydrocortisone + 10μg/ml Insulin + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:4, i.e., seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.05% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37 °C.
