General description

A thienopyridine compound that acts as a specific irreversible inhibitor of purinergic P2Y12 receptors. Blocks ADP-induced platelet aggregation and serves as an anti-thrombotic agent. Shown to reduce vascular inflammation and angiotensin II induced-abdominal aortic aneurysm progression. Clopidogrel is a prodrug that requires activation by CYP enzyme system to produce its pharmacologically active metabolite.
