General description
Native coagulation factor V from human plasma. Thrombin cleaves Factor V to yield activated Factor Va, which exhibits 50-fold greater activity than the precursor molecule. Factor Va, Ca2+, and membrane phospholipids are cofactors that form a "prothrombinase" complex with Factor X, enabling its proteolytic activation of prothrombin to thrombin.
