Application

SR 57227A may be used in 5-HT3-mediated cell signaling studies.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Potent and selective 5-HT3 serotonin receptor agonist.
SR 57227A is a highly selective of central and peripheral 5-HT3 receptors[1] and an inhibitor of NMDA receptor-mediated responses in rat cortical pyramidal cells.[2] It exhibits anti-depressant like effects in rats and decreased isolation-induced aggressive behavior.[3]

The techniques of extracellular single cell recording and microiontophoresis were used to study the effect of 5-HT3 receptor agonists on glutamate-activated firing of CA1 hippocampal pyramidal cells. Iontophoretic application of 5-HT3 receptor agonists 2-methyl-5-HT and SR 57227A produced a current

In the present study, we examined changes in the firing rate and firing pattern of putative slow-spiking (SS) and fast-spiking (FS) interneurons in medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and the effect of 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 (5-HT(3)) receptor agonist SR 57227A on the neuronal

The serotonin type 3 (5-HT(3)) receptor is an only ligand-gated ion channel among 14 serotonin receptors. Here, we examined the roles of the 5-HT(3) receptor in the formation of dendrites and axons, using a dissociation culture of embryonic rat cerebral

The mechanisms underlying individual differences in the response to serotonergic drugs are poorly understood. Rat studies may contribute to our knowledge of the neuronal substrates that underlie these individual differences. A pharmacobehavioural study was performed to assess individual differences in
