General description

In humans and primates, uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism. It is produced by the oxidation of xanthine and hypoxanthine by xanthine oxidase and excreted in urine. High serum levels of uric acid, hyperuricemia, are associated with insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and gout. The mechanisms leading to hyperuricemia are typically either increased uric acid production or decreased urine excretion. Increased serum uric acid may be a marker of renal disease.

Application

Uric Acid Assay Kit has been used
  • to determine the uric acid content in human adipose-derived stem cell culture supernatant
  • to measure serum uric acid level in order to analyse kidney function in rat models
  • to determine the uric acid concentration in serum and to study the e antiinflammatory effects of sunflower head ethanol extract in rats
  • in quantitative analysis of uric acid degradation

Suitability

Suitable for detecting uric acid in biological samples such as serum and urine. Pretreatment of samples is not required

Principle

In this assay, Uric Acid concentration is determined by a coupled enzyme reaction, which results in a colorimetric (570 nm)/fluorometric (λex = 535/λem = 587 nm) product, proportional to the Uric Acid present.
