Application
2-Deoxyribose 1-phosphate (2dR1P) may be used in pyrimidine metabolism research to identify and characterize thymidine phosphorylase(s)/platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor(s)(PD-ECGF)/gliostatin(s).[1] 2-Deoxyribose 1-phosphate may be used to study processes such as angiogenesis in tumor cells at the level of thymidine phosphorylase activity.[2] 2-Deoxy-a-D-ribose 1-phosphate (dR-1-P) is used in the organic synthesis of 2′-deoxynucleosides such as cladribine.[3]

Human Thymidine Phosphorylase (HTP), also known as the platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of thymidine (dThd) to thymine and 2-deoxy-α-d-ribose-1-phosphate (2dR1P). HTP is a key enzyme in the pyrimidine salvage pathway involved in

Using direct injection mass spectrometry (DIMS) we discovered that deoxyribose-1-phosphate (dRP) is released by platelets upon activation. Interestingly, the addition of exogenous dRP to human platelets significantly increased platelet aggregation and integrin αIIbβ3 activation in response to thrombin. In parallel

Our chemo-enzymatic method was successfully applied to the synthesis of 2-chloro-2'-deoxyadenosine (CdA, cladribine) in two ways: 1) direct conversion of chemically synthesized 2-deoxy-alpha-D-ribose 1-phosphate (dRP) to CdA; 2) a two-step route via 9-(2-deoxy-beta-D-ribos-1-yl)-2, 6-dichloropurine (Cl2Pu-dR, 5).
