Cell Line Description

Derived from the kidney of an apparently normal, adult Bos taurus. Also known as MDBK (NBL-1).

Application

MDBK cell line has been used to study the expression of Eimeria bovis-derived antigens on the host cell surface membrane in vitro. It has also been used to study the ubiquitination and degradation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 and 2 (STAT1 and STAT2) by the V proteins of the paramyxoviruses simian virus 5 and human parainfluenza virus type 2.

Culture Medium

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or 10% Horse Serum (HS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
