Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. What are the instructions for using Polyvinyl Alcohol with DABCO 10971?

    1 answer
    1. There is no available information regarding using Polyvinyl Alcohol with DABCO 10971. Basic information is available that Polyvinyl Alcohol solution is ready to use as it comes from the bottle and should be stored at a temperature of 2-8°C and is important to bring the aqueous mounting media to room temperature before use.

      Helpful?

  2. After mounting the slides should be stored at room temperature or is better to have them at 2-8° or frozen at -20°C?

    1 answer
    1. After applying the mounting medium, slides should be stored at 4°C.

      Helpful?

  3. Is Polyvinyl alcohol mounting medium with DABCO®, Product 10981, a permanent mounting media?

    1 answer
    1. No. This is considered an aqueous mounting media.  Although an antifade agent is included in the formulation, the fluorescence will eventually fade.

      Helpful?

  4. Polyvinyl alcohol mounting medium with DABCO®, Product 10981, has gelled during refrigeration.  Is the product still usable?

    1 answer
    1. Yes, the product is still usable after gelling.  The product will however need to be reheated to around 50 degrees Celsius or higher.  It may take some time for the product to turn back into a liquid.

      Helpful?

  5. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

      Helpful?

  6. Can clear finger nail polish be used to replace Polyvinyl alcohol mounting medium with DABCO®, Product 10981, to seal the edges of the coverslips?

    1 answer
    1. Anecdotal evidence suggests that permanent mounting medias do a better job of stopping evaporation of the aqueous mounting media. Clear finger nail polish has been used by some labs for sealing the edges of the coverslip.  We are unaware of any formal studies which have been performed that would document which product gives the better performance.

      Helpful?

  7. Is it necessary to seal the slides after coverslipping?

    1 answer
    1. No. The slides do not require sealing after coverslipping. However sealing the edges of the coverslip with a permanent mounting media such as DPX will prevent the gradual formation of air bubbles as the aqueous mounting media gradually dries.

      Helpful?

  8. How does the use of aqueous Polyvinyl alcohol mounting medium with DABCO®, Product 10981, with an anti-fade agent differ from the use of a standard aqueous mounting media?

    1 answer
    1. The anti-fade agent used in product 10981 will result in an initial drop in the intensity of the fluorescence.  Once the drop in fluorescence has occurred, the remaining fluorescence is not prone to rapid photo bleaching.
