General description

Glutathione S-transferase kappa 1 (UniProt: Q9DCM2; also known as EC:2.5.1.18, GST 13-13, GST class-kappa, GSTK1-1, mGSTK1, Glutathione S-transferase subunit 13, DsbA-L) is encoded by the Gstk1 gene (Gene ID: 76263) in murine species. DsbA-L is a disulfide bond A oxidoreductase like homodimeric mitochondrial protein that is predominantly expressed in heart, kidney, liver and skeletal muscle. It is also highly expressed in adipose tissue and its expression level is negatively correlated with obesity in mice and humans. Overexpression of DsbA-L is shown to promote adiponectin multimerization. Suppression of DsbA-L expression can selectively reduce adiponectin levels and secretion in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Expression of DsbA-L in 3T3-L1 adipocytes is shown to be stimulated by the insulin sensitizer rosiglitazone and inhibited by TNFalpha. Adiponectin expression is reduced in both human obesity and mouse models of genetic obesity. DsbA-L is also shown to co-localize with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) marker protein disulfide isomerase and it interacts with the ER chaperone protein Ero1-L in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Deletion of the first 6 amino acid residues at the N terminus greatly impaired DsbA-L localization in the ER. (Ref.: Liu, M et al. (2015). J Biol Chem. 290(16):10143-8).

Specificity
