General description

Norgen Biotek′s Plant/Fungi Total RNA Purification Kit provides a rapid method for the isolation and purification of total RNA, including viral RNA, from a wide range of plant and filamentous fungal species. Total RNA can be purified from fresh or frozen plant tissues, plant cells or filamentous fungi samples using this kit. All sizes of RNA are purified, from large mRNA and ribosomal RNA down to microRNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA). The procedure is rapid and convenient, as it does not rely on the use of liquid nitrogen in order to homogenize the samples.

Application

For the rapid purification of total RNA (including microRNA) from plants and fungi.
Purified RNA is of the highest quality and can be used in a number of downstream applications, including:
  • qRT-PCR
  • Reverse transcription PCR
  • Northern blotting
  • RNAse protection
  • Primer extension
  • Expression array assays
  • Next Generation Sequencing

Features and Benefits

  • Isolate RNA from a wide range of plant and filamentous fungi samples.
  • Robust lysis buffer is suitable for challenging samples such as pine needle or grape leaf.
  • Isolate a diversity of RNA species from large mRNA, microRNA, and viral RNA.
  • Purification of high yield and quality RNA.
  • No phenol/chloroform extraction required.
  • Liquid nitrogen is not required for homogenization

Rapid RNA extraction is commonly performed with commercial kits, which are very expensive and can involve toxic reagents. Most of these kits can be used with healthy plant tissues, but do not produce consistently high-quality RNA from necrotic fungus-infected tissues
