General description

Auramine is a diphenylmethane dye,[1] used in fluorescence microscopy.[2]

Application

Auramine-phenol fluorochrome staining technique can be used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum, cerebrospinal fluid and other specimens.[3] It may be used as a reference standard in the determination of auramine in processed foods using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).[4]
