General description

Nucleoporin 153kDa (NUP153) has a NE (nuclear envelope)-and NPC (nuclear pore complex)-targeting site, four zinc-fingers and a phenylalanine-glycine-repeat. It is part of the FG repeat class of proteins. The gene encoding it is localized to human chromosome 6p22.3.

Immunogen

recombinant protein corresponding to amino acids 610-1191 of rat Nup15.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-NUP153 antibody produced in rat has been used to study binding protein partners for thyroid hormone receptor-β2.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nucleoporin 153kDa (NUP153) is a nuclear pore protein crucial for nuclear import. It is involved in importin α/β-mediated import and mRNA export from the nucleus. NUP153 is involved in HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-1 nuclear import and integration. Poliovirus and rhinovirus infection results in the cleavage of this protein, thereby disrupting nucleo-cytoplasmic trafficking. Similarly, cardiovirus infection results in NUP153 phosphorylation, thereby modulating nuclear pore complex. NUP153 also has a role in cell cycle modulation and apoptosis. It associates with lamin B and might have a role in the anchoring of nuclear pore complexes to the nuclear lamina.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
