General description

Cat serum protein comprises immunoglobulins (Ig) including IgA, IgM, and IgG. IgG is majorly secreted in precolostral sera and cerebrospinal fluid. IgA and IgM is present in bile, nasal secretions, colostral whey and postcolostral sera.
Pooled normal cat serum was used as an immunogen in rabbit to develop anti-cat whole serum antibody.

Specificity

Strong reactivity with normal cat serum has been deter-mined by immunoelectrophoresis (IEP). This antiserum has not been assayed for interspecies cross reactivity.

Application

Anti-Cat Serum antibody produced in rabbit was fluoresceinated and used in indirect immunofluorescence assay for the detection of feline immunodeficiency virus.

Physical form

Rabbit anti-Cat Serum is provided as a liquid containing 0.1% sodium azide (see MSDS) as preservative.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, the solution may be frozen in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Storage in "frost-free" freezers not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use.

The saliva of cats infected with feline immunodeficiency virus was examined for total immunoglobulin content and antiviral antibodies. Seropositive cats showed an increase in salivary immunoglobulin G levels, which was only partly attributable to the enhanced prevalence of oral inflammatory
