2,3,5,6-Tetramethylpyrazine is a flavor compound belonging to the class of pyrazines. It is found to be a main active ingredient of the traditional Chinese medicine, Chuanxiong and Ma-Huang herbs, used to treat asthma.

Application

2,3,5,6-Tetramethylpyrazine may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in Ephedrae herba and Ephedra sinica Stapf using different chromatography techniques.
