Gene Information

human ... WDR5(11091)

General description

WD repeat-containing protein 5 (WDR5) or alternatively BMP2-induced 3kb gene protein, is encoded by the human gene named WDR5/BIG3 and is part of a family of WD-40 repeat proteins that appear to facilitate the formation of multi-protein complexes much like a sticky tape will bind a variety of components together. The WD repeat proteins are involved in a wide array of cellular functions and processes including cell cycle progression, homeobox gene activation, apoptosis, gene regulation and histone methylation. One of WDR5 best studied activities is as part of a multi-protein complex that facilitates the methylation of histones, particularly histone H3, through its interaction with MLL a histone methyltransferase. WDR5 is also expressed in developing bone cells including osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and marrow stromal cells and works to accelerate osteoblast differentiation and positively promotes Wnt signaling in developing bone tissues.

Immunogen

Linear peptide corresponding to human WD repeat containing protein 5.

This Anti-WD repeat-containing protein 5 antibody is validated for use in western blotting for the detection of WD repeat-containing protein 5.
Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot from an independent laboratory detected WD repeat containing protein 5 in tested cell lysates. (Wysocka, J., et al. (2003). Genes Dev. 17(7):896-911.; Tyagi, S., et al. (2007). 27(1):107-119.; Jin, S., et al. (2010). J Clin Invest. 120(2):593-606.; Tyagi, S., et al. (2009). EMBO J. 28(20):3185-3195.; Diao, Y., et al. (2012). Cell Stem Cell. 11(2):231-241.; Schram, A. W., et al. (2013). PLoS One. 8(7):e70035.).

Quality

Evaluated by Western Blotting in NIH/3T3 cell lysates.

Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:1,000 dilution of this antibody detected WD repeat containing protein 5 in 10 µg of NIH/3T3 cell lysate.

Target description
