Application

Chicken Serum has been used:
  • for pellet resuspension following centrifugation, to prepare zymosan suspension for respiratory burst assay
  • as a supplement to Dulbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium (DMEM) to culture HeLa P cells
  • for blocking in immunofluorescence (IF) double-staining

Chicken serum is used in parasitology to study excystation, growth, survival and egg production of the microphallid trematode Maritrema novaezealandensis. Chicken serum is used for the serial cultivation of chicken keratinocytes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Animal sera serve as a cost-effective alternative to basal cell culture media supplement. They are commonly used in immunodetection protocols such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunocytochemistry (ICC), and western blot to block nonspecific binding. Chicken serum is suitable for use in parasitology to study excystation, growth, survival, and egg production of the microphallid trematode Maritrema novaezealandensis. It is used for the serial cultivation of chicken keratinocytes.
