Gene Information

human ... HLA-DRA(3122)

General description

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR is a member of HLA class II molecules. It is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6.(21} HLA class II molecules are highly expressed on B-Iymphocytes, but is also found at minimal levels on T-Iymphocytes, macrophages, thymus epithelial cells and selected cells of various body tissues. HLA-DR consists of a non-polymorphic α chain gene and up to three distinct highly polymorphic β chain genes.
The mouse monoclonal antibody L243 recognizes specifically HLA-DR molecules, both peptide-loaded and empty.

Immunogen

Human B lymphocytes

Application

Monoclonal Anti-HLA-DR antibody produced in mouse has been used in double immunofluorescent staining.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR activates a T-cell receptor by presenting antigenic peptides derived from extracellular proteins thus, stimulating an immune response against the antigen.{22] Mutation in the gene increases the risk of susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn′s disease and ulcerative colitis. Overexpression of monocytic (HLA)-DR has been observed in schizophrenic patients.
