Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas
IL1RN (Interleukin 1 receptor antagonist) gene encodes a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. It is involved in the regulation of interleukin 1 related immune and inflammatory responses. It inhibits interleukin 1, α (IL1A) and interleukin 1, β (IL1B) activities by binding to interleukin-1 receptor IL1R1 and prevents its association with the co-receptor IL1RAP. It forms a gene cluster with four other genes on chromosome 2. Homozygous deletion of this gene causes an autoinflammatory disease characterized by pustular rash, marked osteopenia, lytic bone lesions, respiratory insufficiency, and thrombosis. Defects in this gene cause an increase risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer.
