Application

ADP-ribosylcyclase is a Ca2+ signaling second messenger. It may be used to study calcium signaling and has been used to research morphine antinociception and tolerance .

Biochem/physiol Actions

ADP-ribosylcyclase is an intracellular calcium regulator that cyclizes NAD into cADPR. It is thought that the majority of ADP-ribosylcyclase activity in the brain is linked to CD38. Nicotinamide is a known inhibitor of CD38 ADP-ribosylcyclase activity .

Unit Definition

One unit will produce 1 μmole of cyclic ADP ribose from β-NAD+ in 5 minutes at pH 7.0 and 25°C.

Sterile alpha and toll/interleukin receptor (TIR) motif-containing protein 1 (SARM1) plays a pivotal role in triggering the neurodegenerative processes that underlie peripheral neuropathies, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative diseases. Importantly, SARM1 knockdown or knockout prevents degeneration, thereby demonstrating that SARM1

Our previous studies have demonstrated that an increase in intracellular levels of Ca(2+) in neurons is an important component of both the antinociception produced by morphine and morphine's tolerance. The present study tested the hypothesis that the Ca(2+) signaling second

Cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) is a metabolite of NAD+ that is as active as inositol trisphosphate (IP3) in mobilizing intracellular Ca2+ in sea urchin eggs. The activity of the enzyme responsible for synthesizing cADPR is found not only in sea urchin

Intracellular signaling regulators can be concentrated into membrane-free, higher ordered protein assemblies to initiate protective responses during stress - a process known as phase transition. Several noncanonical initial nucleotides (NCINs) have been found to cap RNAs and possibly regulate RNA stability, transcription and translation. NAD+ is one of the NCINs that has recently been discovered to cap RNAs in a wide range of species. Identification
