High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is sold based on its total cholesterol concentration, expressed in mg cholesterol per dL (100 mL) of solution. For example, if a 10 mg package is ordered and the cholesterol concentration from the certificate of analysis is 3,230 mg/dL, the product volume will be 0.31 mL. The calculation is as follows: (10 mg)/(3,230 mg/dL) = 0.0031 dL = 0.31 mL. The calculations will be the same for any amount ordered; however, the concentration will be lot-specific. The example above uses information from lot SLCG0104, where the volume is 0.31 mL.
