Tensin 2 belongs to the Tensin family. It shares extensive homology with tensin1 at its N- and C-terminals, including the actin-binding domain, the Src Homology 2 (SH2) and c domains. Tensin 2 mRNA is highly expressed in heart, kidney, skeletal muscle and liver.
Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence located near the C-terminus human tensin 2 (GeneID: 23371), conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in human tensin 2 isoforms 2 and 3, and highly conserved (single amino acid substitution) in mouse tensin 2.
Application
Anti-Tensin 2 (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Tensin 2 interacts with several binding partners through its Src Homology 2 (SH2)-phosphotyrosine binding (PTB) domains, including Axl receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK), caveolin-1 and with the tumor suppressor gene deleted in liver cancer 1 (DLC1) to regulate DLC1 tumor suppressor activity. Tensin 2 also inhibits Akt signaling and cell survival. It reduces intracellular PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 levels at the plasma membrane. It modulates cytoskeletal dynamics and impacts phosphoinositide-Akt signaling through its PTPase domain. Tensin 2 variant 3 is associated with aggressive tumor behavior in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Podocytes are terminally differentiated and highly specialized cells in the glomerulus, and they form a crucial component of the glomerular filtration barrier. The ICGN mouse is a model of glomerular dysfunction that shows gross morphological changes in the podocyte foot
Deleted in liver cancer 1 (DLC1) utilizes a novel binding site for Tensin2 PTB domain interaction and is required for tumor-suppressive function
