Application
Human cyclin-dependent kinase 5 has been used in a study to determine its 3′ untranslated region subunit 1 contains regulatory elements that affect transcript stability.
Biochem/physiol Actions
CDK5 is highly expressed in the nervous system where it phosphorylates a multitude of substrates. CDK5 plays an important role in many processes such as: apoptosis, phototransduction, dopamine and glutamate signalling, neurite outgrowth, neurone migration, induction of acetylcholine receptors, golgi membrane traffic and insulin exocytosis. It has also been implicated in the pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis . It is activated by p35 and p39, and their proteolytic cleavage products, p25 and p29.
Unit Definition
One unit will phosphorylate 1.0 picomole of the peptide substrate histone H19-18 per minute at 30 °C at pH 7.4.

The maturation and maintenance of dendritic spines depends on neuronal activity and protein synthesis. One potential mechanism involves mammalian target of rapamycin, which promotes protein synthesis through phosphorylation of eIF4E-binding protein and p70 ribosomal S6 kinase 1 (S6K). Upon extracellular

CDK5R1 plays a central role in neuronal migration and differentiation during central nervous system development. CDK5R1 has been implicated in neurodegenerative disorders and proposed as a candidate gene for mental retardation. The remarkable size of CDK5R1 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) suggests

Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) is a cytoplasmic serine/ threonine kinase. Knockdown of CDK5 enhances paclitaxel sensitivity in human ovarian cancer cells. This study explores the mechanisms by which CDK5 regulates paclitaxel sensitivity in human ovarian cancers. Multiple ovarian cancer cell
