El ácido oleico (OA), un ácido graso no esencial, se clasifica como ácido graso monoinsaturado (MUFA) muy abundante en el aceite de oliva.[1] Se ha comunicado su eliminación cuantitativa de las mezclas de triglicéridos y glicéridos parciales.[2] El OA se utiliza ampliamente como tensioactivo para la estabilización de nanopartículas magnéticas. Se han preparado nanopartículas de magnetita monodispersas (7 y 19 nm) recubiertas con OA.[3]
Aplicación
Se ha utilizado ácido oleico:
- para estudiar los efectos de los ácidos grasos sobre el cáncer gástrico (GC)[4]
- para inducir la formación de gotitas de lípidos en cultivo celular[5]
- como aditivo en la preparación de fluidos magnetorreológicos[6].
Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas
Se sabe que el ácido oleico mejora la función inmunitaria y la salud. El enriquecimiento alimentario con este ácido graso contribuye a la reducción de los niveles de colesterol, el riesgo de aterogénesis, la presión arterial y la respuesta injerto contra huésped. Se ha demostrado que el ácido oleico es beneficiosos para las enfermedades autoinmunitarias al exhibir acción antiinflamatoria. También mejora el estado del cáncer de mama.[1] El ácido oleico produce efectos fisiológicos como la activación de la proteína cinasa C en los hepatocitos, el desacoplamiento de la fosforilación oxidativa y la inhibición de la ATPasa estimulada con 2,4-dinitrofenol−. Esta acción puede invertirse agregando albúmina sérica.

The stability of this product in solution has not been determined. However, cell culture supplements containing Oleic acid, available as sterile solutions, are stored at 2-8°C and assigned a shelf life of 1 year. See the table below:

How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.

If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. The packaging varies according to the quanitity. The 1G package is in a 5 mL clear glass, flat bottom, sealed ampule. The 5G package is in a 10 mL clear glass, flat bottom, sealed ampule. The 25G package is in a 50 mL clear glass, flat bottom, sealed ampule.

Hello, would OA be soluble in DMSO? Also, after diluting in solvent, how long can it be stored in -20?

Oleic acid is completely miscible with Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in all proportions. It is generally not recommended to store solutions of unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid, due to oxidation. But if the solution is stored under an inert gas (e.g., nitrogen gas or argon gas), that would extend the stability of the solution.
The exact amount of time that the solution is stable is undetermined. Evidence for instability of the solution would be a change in color (colorless to yellow, or yellow to dark yellow, or dark yellow to brown).

Sigma's oleic acid is a clear, colorless to very faint yellow viscous liquid. It is sensitive to air and light. When it becomes oxidized, it aquires a much darker yellow to brown color.
